Demotion

Enchantment — Aura

Enchant creature
Enchanted creature can't block, and its activated abilities can't be activated.

Jak działa karta?

Aura that prevents the enchanted creature from blocking and from activating any activated abilities (abilities with a cost and a colon). Triggered abilities still work.

Demotion to Aura — Enchantment — Aura. It enchants a creature. While it enchants that creature, two effects apply: (1) the creature "can't block" — it cannot be declared as a blocker during combat; (2) "its activated abilities can't be activated" — any activated ability of that creature (an ability written with a cost, a colon, then an effect, for example " {T} : ..." or "1: ...") cannot be activated. Note that some keyword abilities are activated abilities only when they include a colon in their rules text. Triggered abilities (those beginning with "when", "whenever", or "at") are not affected by Demotion and still occur normally. If Demotion stops enchanting the creature for any reason, those restrictions no longer apply.

Ważne interakcje

Aura enters the battlefield attached to a creature you choose as it resolves (you must target a creature when casting Demotion).
Enchanted creature is prevented from being assigned as a blocker (it "can't block").
Activated abilities of the enchanted creature that have a cost and a colon (e.g., ": ...", "1: ...") can't be activated while the aura is enchanting it.
Triggered abilities of the creature (those that begin with "when", "whenever" or "at") are not affected and still trigger and resolve normally.
If the aura stops enchanting the creature (e.g., it's destroyed, moved, or the creature leaves the battlefield), the creature regains the ability to block and to activate its activated abilities.

Częste pomyłki

Thinking triggered abilities are disabled. Triggered abilities ("when/whenever/at") still function.
Believing static or triggered effects that look like activated abilities are disabled even if they don't have a colon. Only abilities with a cost and a colon are blocked.
Assuming the restriction applies to other objects. Demotion only affects the creature it enchants; other creatures are unaffected.
Forgetting to target a creature when casting. As an Aura, Demotion must target a creature, and if the target is illegal when it resolves, it will go to the graveyard instead of attaching.

Przykład

You cast Demotion targeting an opponent's walking creature. Once Demotion is attached, that creature can't be declared as a blocker and you can't pay costs to activate any of its activated abilities (for example, you can't tap it to use a " {T} :" ability). If Demotion is removed, the creature can block and use its activated abilities again.

Activated abilities contain a colon. They’re generally written “[Cost]: [Effect].” Some keyword abilities are activated abilities and will have colons in their reminder text. Triggered abilities (starting with “when,” “whenever,” or “at”) are unaffected by Demotion.
