Cryptothrall jest artefaktem i stworzeniem (Construct). Ma zdolność ochronną nazwaną Protector, opisaną: "Inne artefakty-stworzenia, które kontrolujesz, mają hexproof." To oznacza, że Cryptothrall sam nie daje hexproof sobie (tekst używa słowa "Other" — "Inne"). Hexproof oznacza, że stwory nie mogą być celem zaklęć lub zdolności przeciwnika, które wybierają cele. Zdolność dotyczy tylko artefaktów, które są też stworzeniami, oraz tylko tych, które kontrolujesz.
